I'm Ed Tsarionov, an editor, producer and builder. I make media and the tools that run it.
I studied at the Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow, where the subject, whatever the course was called, was how to tell a story. While still a student I interned at RBC, one of Russia's largest business media, and at two podcast companies, SoundStream and PodFM — and audio stuck. In 2020 I co-founded Podcasts.ru, the trade publication of the Russian podcast industry, and ran it as editor-in-chief until 2023; with colleagues I organised SLYSH, Russia's first online podcast festival, two years in a row.
At the same time I was launching my own shows — Posmotreno, about film, and Baka!, about anime, among others — and learning every part of the job on them: writing, editing, sound, covers, growth.
Then I started doing that for other people, at Studio Bogema, one of Russia's leading podcast studios, and as a freelancer. Conversational shows and narrative ones, in every role from scriptwriter to producer. One of them, Hack the Brain, became one of the most successful popular-science podcasts in Russian.
In 2022 I left Russia for Tbilisi and kept working remotely. From 2023 the work shifted to full productions, where I own the result: Kolyma, a narrative series about the Gulag region that won the Redkollegia prize; Dar Mesta, recorded across Moscow for a property developer; Memorii and Ochagi for ktomy.media. In parallel I ran partnerships for Radio Sakharov, an independent radio and podcast platform, bringing sixty shows onto a network that reached seven million households. I also began teaching podcasting — at HSE University, Netology and Tolk — and consulting for shows and brands.
And I kept writing: three years as the anime correspondent for T—J, and in 2026 a book, Manga, Moe, Isekai, published by Kinopoisk and Alpina, which sold out two extra print runs.
Baka! never stopped. It's now 240 episodes, video essays in Russian and English, a paid membership and an audience of 200,000 across platforms. In 2026 I built its website myself, with Claude Code, in eleven days — the first code I'd written since school. That turned into a habit: I now build my own tools for making and publishing video.
I've lived in Berlin since 2025 and work in English and Russian. I'm open to editorial and production roles in English-language media.
