Views no longer follow followers

I came across a very telling chart this morning from the influencer marketing agency Kyra. They tried to track the correlation between average views and the number of followers a creator has. And they found that there is no clear correlation.

Creators whose posts average 100K views can have anywhere from 26K to 1.4M followers.

This is largely influenced by recommendation algorithms — whether something goes viral or not is no longer solely dependent on follower count, but more on luck.

Even in platforms like Telegram, where there are no recommendations, this correlation is becoming increasingly blurred. For example, I’ve noticed that my anime channel “Baka!” (6K followers) easily outperforms channels with five or six times more followers in terms of average views and engagement.

Most likely, this trend will lead to the conclusion that it’s not views that matter, but the communities creators build. These communities will become the only predictable and result-driven source (clicks, subscriptions, purchases), and the focus will shift to paying for access to them.
