An internet radio station and podcast platform for people who value intellectual freedom. I brought in the partner shows, ran joint projects with the leading studios and produced the platform's own podcasts.
Why
Radio Sakharov is an internet radio station and podcast platform for people who value intellectual freedom. It talked about events in Russia and the world, discussed ideas and trends, made sense of the past and tried to look into the future. Its unusual feature was reach: the station’s programmes were also carried by satellite TV, which put them into 7 million households across Russia.
A platform like that needs shows. My job was to bring them.
What I did
For three years I ran partnerships. I brought more than 60 podcasts from other creators onto the platform, so that independent shows could reach an audience they would never get on their own — including listeners who don’t use podcast apps at all and heard them as radio. With the key studios of the Russian market — Libo/Libo, NORM and the BBC Russian Service — we made joint projects rather than just carrying each other’s content.
As a producer I also helped create and promote the platform’s own podcasts, from Vsekhnyaya Lyusya and Zakati Stsenu to about ten other shows. Part of that work was taking audio-first projects and repackaging them for YouTube, where the platform grew to around 40,000 subscribers.
What came out
Sixty-plus partner shows, joint projects with the three most respected names in Russian-language audio, a radio audience of seven million households and a YouTube channel built from scratch.
